    Bio

    David Polk

David Polk started playing the saxophone at the age of ten, by the time he was fourteen he knew the Saxophone & music would be the foundation for his life! David's parents, Thomas & Rosemary Polk were his biggest supporters encouraging their son's passion for music!

Special thanks needs to be given to Walter Menard and Dean Olbrecht, band directors from his middle and high school years. David's private instructors were Chicago's own Hobart Grimes, a multi-instrumentalist that performed in Broadway shows and Joe Daly, legendary jazz saxophonist whose past students included David Sanborn & John Klemmer!

In 1978, David attended North Texas State University for his formal musical education but then something happened during Christmas break that changed his life forever. Joe Daly told him NT State was ruining his sound and playing, so David quit school and pursued his musical interest in Chicago! Serendipity hit six months later when David joined Juggular, a unique jazz fusion band from Northern Illinois University that combined music with visual artistry. Check out their album, "Balls", it's a masterpiece! (David joined right after they recorded Balls).

In 1989, David joined the Chicago based Orchestra 33 entertainment group, a twelve- piece band that brings world-class musicianship to the stage and has earned great respect in Chicago and throughout the country! David continues to play with Encore 33 in special events in Chicago and around the Country!

In 1992, David became the musical director for the Hyatt Regency Chicago, A wonderful experience in corporate America!

1997, David Polk Project was formed and released the first of five CD's: Feel Good (1997), Wide Open (2003), Superwind (2008), Maiden Voyage - Live at Wire (2019), and Lush Life - Duets with Vijay Tellis-Nayak (2023).

David Polk continues to freelance in a wide range of entertaining situations from performing with Encore 33, Simply Billy/Simply Elton (Billy Joel, Elton John), Yacht Rockettes (soft rock), Anchors Away, Creedance Revived (CCR tribute) and last but not least, the David Polk Project!! How fortunate it is to live the life of music! Do Good, Be Kind.
